Research Officer _Communications

Purpose

The post-holder will play a key role in ensuring that UNIVERSITY Research Services' processes and procedures are communicated effectively to the research community in UNIVERSITY (researchers, research administrative staff and research management). The post-holder will contribute to the development of research resources, including new online services, for effectively communication with the research community.

The Faculty / Department

The Directorate of the Vice President for Research in UNIVERSITY is a relatively new function in the University. The role of the Directorate is to support the President's vision of UNIVERSITY becoming a research intensive university by building an environment that encourages and attracts world class researchers, identifies and capitalises on new funding opportunities and maximises the outputs from research activities.

UNIVERSITY Research Support Services are committed to ensuring that research administration processes are researcher-centric with a focus on reducing the administrative burden on researchers in UCD. To this end, the processes will build and develop the research support competency within UNIVERSITY and will be designed to assure quality standards are defined and delivered.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Work with UNIVERSITY Research team members to design, develop and provide resources to support the efficient deployment and uptake of new research services
Initially support the piloting and deployment of online services associated with the registration of grants
Assist in the design of resource materials for researchers with regard to the amended grant registration process
Liaise with other research support units, including research administrators and understand and address the needs of the research administration and management community in the college
Plan, schedule and manage workshops and other communications for that underpin the full deployment of new research services in college
Monitor the progress of the deployment plans for new research services and identify any areas where workshops and seminars may facilitate the deployment of new services.
Provide support to the Vice-President for Research for large institutional research bids and programmes as needed
Compile written reports with regard to the research project reporting for submission to the funding agencies and sponsors to ensure policies/ terms and conditions are being adhered to
Analyse and log any associated issues and bring them to the attention of the Director of Research Strategy and Planning or nominee for resolution
Any other related duties or projects

Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory

· A third level qualification, preferably in a relevant discipline

· Three years senior administrative/management experience

· Strong interpersonal and communicative skills, both written and oral

· High level of administrative and organisational ability

· An effective team player with an ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

· High level of accuracy and attention to detail

· Ability to work on own initiative and to meet deadlines

· Ability to cope with ambiguity and change and maintain high level of professionalism when working under pressure

· Ability to manage competing priorities in an often complex environment

· Demonstrates tact, discretion, confidentiality and good judgment

· Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment.

Desirable
A good knowledge of University structures and academic procedures
A good knowledge of the university's research environment
Knowledge of business processes
Excellent ICT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Project
Marketing and/or training experience
