Project Manager - Research Reviews (3year contract)
My client a leading University in Research is undertaking programme of work 'Profiling Research Excellence' to support the national programme of reform in higher educational institutions. This innovative programme strengthens research management processes with a view to ensuring optimum return for research investment in the college. This programme will provide a means of ascertaining research yield and performance through benchmarking outcomes against international standards in order to:
· Aid strategic decision making;
· Support the alignment of research activity with institutional and National research priorities;
· Demonstrate quality and value created by public investment in University.
The Research Department is seeking a project manager to manage this programme of work from inception through to execution.
Principal Responsibilities:
Project Management
· Plan and co ordinate the programme of work.
· Prepare project reports for the steering groups.
· Manage issues and risks as they arise.
· Stakeholder management.
· Manage suppliers, including planning and oversight of the activities of service providers to ensure delivery of quality outputs in accordance with service contract.
· Resource Management (e.g. peer reviewer identification, engagement, scheduling and management).
· Ensure project documentation is current, complete and stored appropriately.
Communications & Change Management
· Identify stakeholder groups associated with each initiative and ensure that an active stakeholder engagement plan is developed that builds shared purpose around the initiative upfront and ensures that there is commitment to implementation of outputs.
Relationship Management
· Establish and maintain a network of internal relationships across schools and colleges at all levels to senior management (e.g. Heads of Schools).
· Implement communication activities to support the site visits
· Develop a network of individuals capable of undertaking peer reviews of research activity
· Seek to resolve conflict as it arises and escalate issues when appropriate.
· Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders
· Manage a diverse stakeholder group (to senior executive level) on projects that have significant impact within the research community
Mandatory
· A third level degree.
· A minimum of seven years experience in project or functional management in a complex organisational environment.
· Highly motivated self starter able to take the project from inception to execution with minimal oversight.
· Excellent relationship building, communication and networking skills.
· Highly developed negotiation and facilitation skills and the ability to influence at senior management level.
· Demonstrates ability to manage change.
· Demonstrates high standards in the delivery of work products.
· Highly organised, in terms of planning and execution, coupled with the ability to manage competing priorities.
· Ability to cope with ambiguity and maintain a high level of professionalism when working under pressure.
· Demonstrates tact, discretion, confidentiality and good judgment.
· Excellent IT skills, including MS Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
Desirable
· PhD or equivalent.
· Experience of working in Higher Education or Research field..
· Understanding of university structures and academic procedures.
· Knowledge of business and quality assurance processes.
· Understands and has experience of using formal project management methodologies.
