Research Officer (Policy)
Purpose
To act as a key member of the Research Support Services team who will lead in the development and maintenance of research policy and regulations and manage research policy related projects arising from ongoing research services initiatives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The principal duties of the post will be to provide professional support to UNIVERSITY Research by:
· Reviewing policy and regulations, with a view to providing supporting documentation for policy, processes and procedures for the effective delivery of research support services
· Ensuring that UNIVERSITY research policy formulation adheres to best international practice
· Ensuring that UNIVERSITY meets the requirements of any national policies in terms of managing its funded research
· Developing and maintaining accessible and relevant research policy documents for UNIVERSITY Research and the research community
· Developing and implementing document control procedures and ensure standards are in line with UNIVERSITY requirements
· Working collaboratively with academic and support colleagues to assist in the implementation of agreed policy
· Supporting UNIVERSITY Research in the implementation of appropriate governance structures for research in the university
· Any other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.
Mandatory
· A third level degree preferably in business, management or related disciplines
· Minimum of three years experience of policy/regulations development and procedure review
· Strong interpersonal and communicative skills, both written and oral
· Ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment
· Excellent relationship building skills
· High level of accuracy and attention to detail
· Ability to cope with ambiguity and change and maintain high level of professionalism when working under pressure
· Ability to manage competing priorities in an often complex environment
· Demonstrates initiative and an ability to work independently with little direct supervision
· Demonstrates tact, discretion, confidentiality and good judgment
Desirable
· Knowledge of University structures and academic procedures
· Experience in developing and delivering policy discussion documents
· Knowledge of business processes development
· Experience of Project Management
