Our client is a leading multinational organisation in the technology sector. A senior opportunity for a Logistics Operations Manager has become available. The role will be responsible for heading up a selection of projects in the Logistics area in EMEA, across three specific areas: - cost reduction, service improvement and enabling projects. These include:

  • Major Projects agreed at WW level and implemented by the Logistics team; this role requires leadership of some of those projects and team membership of others.
  • Local projects will emerge from the Logistics team and this role will lead those, or be an integral part of them.
  • The projects will be tangible pieces of work with clearly measurable benefits that can be seen to be delivered.

Continuous improvement:
Responsible for initiating, developing and implementing continuous operational improvement actions for the European Service Operations, specifically focusing on Warehousing, Freight and related Logistics activities. This role will assist the Procurement Manager in Managing the day-to-day relationship with Logistics partners. This includes:

  • Develop and agree key performance indicators for each area of the business to enable daily, weekly and monthly tracking of performance.
  • Build the critical business metrics into service level agreements, internally and externally and agree with all stakeholders.
  • Incorporate the business' strategic direction, goals, objectives and key measurement systems to ensure the business goals are met.
  • Develop cost improvement plans to support cost reduction targets for FY07 / FY08.
  • Drive for continual business process improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Research and recommend best practices for function/process, applying proven methodology such as JIT and Six Sigma.
  • Research and understand emerging trends in the business landscape.
  • Work with the business owners to enhance the business processes to meet, or exceed the Business Requirements.
  • Work with the cross-functional business owners to document and gain final approval for changes to business processes.
  • Facilitate the development of improvement proposals through measurement and analysis of current activities.
  • Analyse improvement proposals, define, prioritise and allocate to nominated DRI for implementation.
  • Ensure the DRI's are progressing and closing actions within agreed timescales.
  • Chair weekly review meetings with DRI's and update action plan to provide visibility on progress.
  • Project manages the complexity of various process changes across multiple functions and owners, to ensure complete and timely closure.

Education and Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in similar reverse Logistics role with 3 years' project management experience with extensive knowledge of project management methodology
  • Third level qualification in Logistics or Supply Chain, with an MBA a advantage.
  • Ability to maintain and develop relationships across project teams, including Logistics, BPR, Finance and the contacts within Logistics suppliers.
  • Literacy with MS Word, MS Excel, and basic project planning tools.
