Manufacturing Polymer Process Support Engineer

This role is for a Polymer engineer who will directly support injection moulding production activities. The role is primarily targeted at supporting day shift activity; however this could change at any time in the future depending on requirements of the business.
Reporting into the engineering function, the engineer will be responsible for supporting all shift engineering activity within Production. Primary responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the injection moulding cells plus related processes as well as the product assembly processes. At various times as needs arise and as part of the production team, the successful candidate may be asked to help out in areas such as extrusion, training, planning, and staff supervision.

Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. These responsibilities may be modified or changed at any time depending on the needs of the business.

  • Continually monitor and achieve set goals and targets.
  • Identify and put in place permanent and effective technical / system solutions to problems.
  • Consistently meet customer requirements and commitment to excellence in performance and meeting deadlines.
  • Maximise output through technical solutions that increase efficiencies and implement cost reduction initiatives within the cells / processes.
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and innovation in line with lean thinking and process excellence.
  • Implement proper house keeping and Health & Safety standards in respect of all processes and equipment.
  • Maintain equipment and processes to a very high standard of efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain very high quality standards in line with supporting the quality / compliance culture within Company.
  • Ensure that procedures and work methods for areas of responsibility are accurate and fully reflect the process.
  • Ensure that all paperwork / procedures generated for the cell are accurate, legible and in full compliance with quality systems.
  • Working with the training function, identify, prepare and deliver any technical training requirement within areas of responsibility. Ensure that accurate training records are completed and passed on to the training department for filing.
  • Help motivate the cell group by effective communication, ensuring goals and targets are understood, building an atmosphere of openness, honesty and flexibility within and across the team and individuals.
  • Identify procedural deficiencies and correct through the document change control system.
  • Maintain process KPI's as required.
  • Build and maintain a good working relationship with all other team members.


Key Requirements:
  • Engineering qualification (Polymer technology or equivalent), and relevant experience.
  • A demonstrated ability to solve problems with innovative and cost effective solutions.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a focussed production / problem solving team would be very desirable.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A knowledge of Engineering and Quality Systems
  • Ability to make and Implement decisions.
  • Knowledge and experience of lean manufacturing and process capability would be an advantage.
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to work in a highly technical, challenging and changing environment.
  • Computer literate.
