A vacancy has arisen due to maternity leave within a leading international banking group for a Business Development Underwriter within their Reinsurance business. This is for an initial twelve month contract but with a view to permanency.
The purpose of this role is primarily to assist senior management in the identification and development of business opportunities, the assessment of resulting reinsurance proposals, and the subsequent maintenance and monitoring of reinsurance contracts. The jobholder will be responsible for assisting senior management in the decision making and risk management process.
The remit includes:
· Technical evaluation of reinsurance proposals received from various sources within the group
· Liaising with the business sources, collating information and data/MIS to support business acceptance decisions.
· Participation in the underwriting decision making forum
· Maintaining records and documentation of decisions and contracts
· Active liaison with the Group's reinsurance brokers on manufacturer's business and renewal.
· Help refine underwriting procedures and processes; assist in defining retrocession requirements.
· Manage and plan the pipeline of reinsurance inflows
· Monitor accumulation/ aggregation of risks.
· Work with senior management, to identify and track business enquiries within client manufacturers, Preferred Strategic Partners, & Insurance Brokers
· Support business acquisition by liaising with business providers
· Oversee and coach direct reports
Environment of the Job
The jobholder will be a member of a small team, reporting to the Deputy Head of Reinsurance and liaising with a range of internal and external contacts across a range of disciplines.
Requirements for the Role
· 5 - 7 years insurance industry experience of which preferably minimum 2 years on reinsurance side.
· Graduate or equivalent, with a recognised Insurance Qualification
· Exposure to and understanding of varied classes of insurance business in international insurance and reinsurance markets
· Knowledge of reinsurance techniques and practices.
· Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with an ability to develop working relationships with a wide range of internal and external personnel.
· Familiarity with the regulatory and financial management framework of (re)insurance businesses.
